Occupy
October 2011
San Diego, California
Occupy San Diego began on October 7, 2011 first at Children’s Park and moved to Civic Center Plaza the following morning, where the permanent occupation took place.
The Occupy Movement beginning in September 2011 in the United States was largely influenced by the uprising in Tahir Square, Egypt in which the tactic of occupying public space to challenge to culture of corporate greed and democratic unaccountability. First beginning on Wall Street in New York, the movement quickly spread around the globe.
In San Diego, the physical occupation last about 3 months as it became very daunting to sustain a movement. With that said, many radicals were born out of it and will forever be connected by it.
