Civil disobedience was never supposed to be convenient. It’s supposed to disrupt your daily routine.

This freeway blockade of the 8-freeway in La Mesa, California occurred on May 30, 2020.

After rallying at La Mesa Police Department, demonstrators began marching throughout the city eventually leading onto the freeway on-ramp. It felt like there was thousands of people marching, and as if choreographed and planned, multiple sub-groups started dispersing in different areas of the city. Some stayed on the freeway to block, some continued to March along the streets, some went further down the freeway, while some went back to La Mesa PD to disrupt. It seemed like this action spread the PD’s thin throughout. Eventually we all made it back to the police station where more escalation ensued.
