Caravan March
Caravan March
June 6, 2020
San Diego, California
San Diego's Black Lives Matter and March for Black Women caravan protest saw hundreds of cars stretched out literally miles long all throughout San Diego County while visiting places and neighborhoods of significance.
The concept of a caravan march was bred out of COVID-19 and the need for social distancing. Same concept as a march, this artifact of virus culture brings cars to the roads like they were floats in a parade. This new tactic of mass protest brought intersections to a grinding halt, as participants wave signs, fervently honking their horns not allowing anyone - although some would prefer - to ignore the message of #blacklivesmatter
In San Diego, we saw the caravan begin in La Jolla, making stops in City Heights for Muna Kuri, Hillcrest for Black Trans Lives, El Cajon for Alfred Olango, Otay Mesa Detention Center for ICE detainees and immigrant lives, in addition to other locations.
The show of solidarity was quite wonderful, and left me with the sound of car horns long after the night was over.
