On this night in 2012, approximately organizers within Occupy San Diego movement took to San Diego Gaslamp Quarter to march against police brutality in a march titled, “FUCK THE POLICE (FTP).”

Although common to see today, in 2012, organizing an FTP March was quite controversial and radical. Especially because how the Occupy Movement stood in the public eye at the time. News depicted us as a movement with who’s lost its support.

So when to more radical organizers proposed to have the FTP march endorsed and supported by Occupy San Diego, they voted NOT to due to its “violent” tone.

Those who rejected to endorsing the march was what you would consider the neo-liberals.

I remember being very disappointed in this decision. I felt somewhat of a betrayal to the folks who felt really strongly about this. I felt that this did not represent the movements slogan of “we are the 99% .“ I felt we failed in fully embracing diversity of tactics and the message of unification, which is really important in this movement; to show true and meaningful solidarity.

By rejecting the march, they really rejected solidarity.
