San Diego Gaslamp, California

Trump was still just a candidate. He came to visit San Diego and held a rally at the convention center. It seemed like more white supremacists were emboldened seeing Trump run. People were showing a little bit more of their colors publicly and confidently.

On this day, counter protesters showed up in San Diego to disapprove of his visit. There was a lot of marches, a lot of actions organized around the day congregating in downtown. 

Unlawful assembly was called quite early around 4:30pm and eventually police started corralling, pushing, and arresting people. There were probably 1000 cops out there all in militarized gear.

The over-policing and the militarization of the police force continues today even as we see protesters out there after the ruling on Breonna Taylor’s murder.

The tactics are the same today and years before us; arrest people on bogus charges, intimidate by holding and detaining, torture by withholding basic human rights, and exhausting funds raised in the form of bail.

As we continue to grapple with what we’ve witnessed this week, know the police exist to protect property and wealth, not people. I just wish everyone out there safety and solidarity as we mourn and grieve together.
